Why you should not use AMP in your blog

Since AMP was invented, many people are trying to implement AMP on their blog just to get good ranks in Google, while you sure get a small benefit your AMP blog in Google, mostly disadvantages of AMP are more than its advantages. Let discuss it in more detail why you should not use AMP in your blog.

Note: Now AMP website users get a plus point in their search engine rank if competition in your niche is relatively high. If the niche you choose has a low to medium level of competition then implementing AMP will only decrease your revenue.

If you use want to use AMP but also don't want a decrease in revenue then you will need to optimize your adsense ads to a greater extent to get benefitted from both. Wordpress provides the best optimization of ads as well as helps you to retain the design of the blog even after using AMP.

What is AMP?

AMP stands for accelerated mobile pages. The amp HTML is much faster and lite than the normal HTML and gives you a benefit of speed over others. AMP is only supported on mobile and if your site uses AMP then your site will load fastest on mobile phones. To apply AMP on your blog you have to just install a WordPress plugin or use the AMP supported blogger themes.

Why AMP?

AMP speeds up your site thereby giving you an advantage over normal sites. Recently Google announced that it will give benefits to sites that load quicker on mobile phones and hence everyone is just trying to go for AMP.

Why you should not use AMP in your blog?

Less revenue

There are many disadvantages to using AMP whole only increasing the speed on your site. AMP pages may load faster and get more views but AMP pages make less revenue than the normal blog pages and this is one of the biggest setbacks of AMP. You will get fewer clicks on AMP ads as compared to normal blogger pages which most of the bloggers don't want. While AMP is best for a post that promotes affiliate products, it's simply bad in terms of revenue with Google Adsense.

No javascript

The second reason is that AMP pages don't support JavaScript and here goes the ability to customize pages with JS. You won't be able to customize pages that are AMP and this also means that you will have to give up javascript again just for speed. You won't be able to show ads based on JS and specialized AMP ads are required which are not that good in terms of revenue. The second fallback in terms of revenue.

No shortcodes

Also in AMP, you can use shortcodes, any customization options that your theme provides like tables, slideshows, dropdowns, nothing. Again a setback. With AMP, your page will lose its charm and instead look just like a normal HTML page and believe me if you just want your page to look like a normal HTML page then what the fuck is the purpose of your premium 60$ theme? Well, you think.

Search console errors

AMP also brings errors in search console pages which in turn add to setbacks of AMP. If you are using WordPress, then you won't encounter any issues but many platforms such as blogger give rise to errors in search console when AMP is used. Such errors in such a console also lead to a negative rating in the site.

These are the reasons some of the biggest players in blogging who openly supported AMP now don't allow AMP posts on their blog. Revenue and customizing options are highly affected because of AMP. If you must have observed, on the first page of Google, there are many results that are not AMP. Maybe there are two to three AMP results but many results are non AMP. Well, this is because Google still gives first preference to your content. If your sites don't have good content and just loads fast then, believe me, it's of no use. Content is still the king and will always be the king. First, it was just about quality content, now the quality is required with quantity. Go for quality with quantity and you will surely be on the first page of the search results.
Now you decide if you want to use AMP on your blog or not.

If you are opting for removing AMP from your site, then well you should make sure that your site has a maximum loading time of two to three seconds and not more than that. Remove all the unnecessary widgets from the site and just keep the things which you want. Remove facebook like the frame, follow us widgets and other customizing codes. Just keep the important stuff which is posts and ads. Remove everything other than that because 90% traffic to your site is from Google search engine only so social tools are not required on the site as long as your site has a follow us links in the footer, post share buttons, and your posts are automatically shared on your sites social network accounts. You don't this widgets on an AMP site so why have them on your site anyway. Instead, put sticky ads on the sidebar too so more ads will be available to desktop users.

Your sites sure will have a fast speed but make sure the theme you use is not heavily built because even theme has an effect on your site's loading speed. Buy a simple minimal theme with faster speed and a little less customization option so that you will get a benefit of speed. Even AMP has little space for customization so why keep it on our site anyway. Our only motto here is to keep the revenue flow going which AMP isn't good at. With speed, you will even get the benefits of higher place on Google and there will even be no loss in revenue.

Another option for increasing the speed of your blog is hosting your blog on a content delivery network. Adding your blog to Content Delivery Networks will again increase your blog speed by two-fold. There are many free CDNs available over the internet which have to give your blog the fastest speeds. You can host your blog on Cloudflare CDN for a free boost to speed but if you don't want to lose revenue and speed is of utmost priority you should use one of the premium plans of Max CDN and get your site speed boosted within no time.
