First of all, let's start with the most basic concept. Blog! What is a blog? Blogging is expressing your ideas with the world. For this Blogger was developed by Pyra Labs on 23 August 1999. As the number of blogs started increasing, Wordpress was developed on 27 May 2003. Google then bought Blogger and joined .blogspot subdomain to it. With it launched Google Adsense to display ads on them so bloggers could get some cash from their blog.
Then came the next generation of blogging where people started to blog for making a living. A good example of it is Shout Me Loud website which has been online since 10-12 years and the owner Harsh Aggarwal stills earns his living from the blog. On his blog he writes tips and tricks about WordPress, blogging, hosting and other digital marketing tips.
Recent changes in Blogging
Recently a number of bloggers have gone in thousand and the whole idea of the blog is reversed. People write a blog to earn money. If there is no profit then many people even leave blogging within months but many have managed to garner a large number of readers and are earning lakhs and lakhs of dollars per month just by using Adsense and affiliate marketing ads on their blog. Modern-day blogs like Gadgets Now, New 18 are the blogging publications who have gained a huge user following due to the material they publish. They have been dominant names in Newspaper services and the same unique and quality post now are available online on their blogs and hence 1000s of people visit the blog for news content.
In the recent generation of blogging, bloggers from older generations are struggling due to the drastic increase in competition that has happened over the years. Currently, there are millions of blogs with thousands of new bloggers coming in each day. Bloggers have covered each and every niche from tech, programming, digital marketting, travel blogs to cooking blogs. Each niche has about 1000s of blogs and there is competition among each blogger as to who gets more visitors.
Basic requirements of blogging
So now if you are thinking of entering into the blogging field then you should at least have a team of 5-6 members who will continuously keep updating posts to keep the flow of visitors consistent and let users have something to read. Here are some things which you will need to buy for making a blog.
A short and easy to remember domain name. Many famous blogs have short and easy to remember a domain name like Shoutmeloud, Problogger, Master blogging, etc.
WordPress hosting from a hosting provider. I will recommend Bluehost.
A premium WordPress theme like Sahifa, Enfold, Avada, etc.
Time and patience and will to work hard. These three things are the most important things of all.
