How to decide a niche for a blog

One of the biggest problems today's bloggers face while making a blog is deciding a niche. They buy hosting from the cheapest hosting provider but while actually writing a blog people keep searching for the best topics to write. Many people choose just any niche and start publishing posts for their blog but after some time when they don't get anything to write, they try to change their niche and after some days again this process goes on for a month and then they finally get fed up and think blogging is a very difficult task. Due to one mistake, they create a misconception about blogging. Actually blogging is very easy provided you follow a step-by-step guide. The very first step in blogging is deciding a niche.

How to decide a niche for a blog?

Just buying hosting provider and then adding some post isn't blogging. Blogging is bigger than that. Blogging is sharing your knowledge with the world and it is a 'Punya ka kaam' as we say in India or a holy deed. For blogging, you need to keep in mind what knowledge you want to share with the world. So therefore proper planning and step by step execution are necessary. First of all, we decide a niche, buy hosting service, design a nice logo, title, tagline, and then start posting. If you can't decide a niche then you are failing in the first step of the blog itself. It is obvious that the next steps will be obvious.

Deciding a niche is not then difficult task provided you keep two things in mind. I will discuss both things letter on in the post. What is difficult is to keep writing continuously about it in the blog and that's where most people find it difficult. Based on the topic you decide you should be able to write at least 100-1000 evergreen posts. Copy blogging is becoming very popular nowadays but what is the use of writing again what is already written and then giving the original content credit to the site from which it is copied. Some people say that they modify the content and add their own innovative ideas. Then why give the credit of your own ideas to others.

If you don't know let me explain to you, in copy blogging, most of the people copy posts from others blog and then paste it by just modifying some lines here and there. So take it to the next level by adding some of their own content. Then at the end of the post, you have to give a link to the original post as a credit to the original post author. I am seriously strictly against it as it doesn't give proper credit to the original author of the post. Let it be as its totally different topic from which we are talking about and it is covered further in the post.

The first thing that you have to keep in mind is that you should have an interest in whatever you write. Writing just for the sake of becoming a blogger isn't blogging. Your blog should represent your passion for writing. Like if you check my blog, each and every post was written on this blog has a knack for giving in-depth information about the topic. Your interest in your niche should be such that you should be able to just go on writing for hours and hours and even then you will fall short of time for writing and only then you can be called a real blogger.

The second thing is that now every niche has at least 5-10 popular blogs and 40-50 blogs already made. There are in competition amongst themselves as which can be the best blog in its own niche. So starting your own blog, bringing it in competition and then becoming the best blog in your niche is a long way ahead. So to make it easy you should decide a niche in which there is a minimum number to almost zero number of blogs. The most popular niche's like digital marketing, tech news, and tech tips are already taken. There are lakhs and lakhs of blogs on interest on these niches and every month 5-10 more get added. If you are thinking about selecting one of these blogs as a niche then you will have to stand out by publishing quality news and using innovative ideas for blogging.

Some niches which you should try out

Educational blogs:

Educational blogs are very less and the trend of search Google for problems not found in the books is increasing. You can write blogs that have an educational niche like engineering websites, law, and commerce websites, blogs that solve maths problems in easy and imaginative ways, etc. If you start a blog in such niches your blog is likely to get more popular than others.

Recipe blogs:

Recipe blogs are uncommon but thats what makes blogs in this topic interesting. You can support your blog using youtube videos and receive income from both channels which are of a double benefit. Your blog will provide SEO optimization to your youtube channel and your channel will provide extra income with your blog.

Travel blogs:

Some people like to travel very much. I know some people who saved money for traveling from the time they were about 18 years of age and are now roaming like nomads. They have traveled more than 90 countries and continue to travel around the world for adventures. They blog at Bruised Passports and generate income through travel guides, promotions, tour promotions and more.

Psychology Blogs

Well, there are very few psychology blogs out there. You can teach people a way to lead a positive life, improve their thought process, and help depressed people fight depression. You will need a little knowledge about psychology and how the human mind works but most of the time you just have to show how beautiful like is and how positive thoughts can change their life for better.

Some niches which are just emerging

Astrology

Astrology is one of the emerging niches in blogging. Many bloggers read books on astrology and then start their own astrology blogs. Many astrology blogs provide daily, monthly and weekly horoscopes which are becoming a popular trend nowadays. This blogs also get a huge number of views. The most popular blogs in this niche are AstroStyle which is run by Astro twins and Ganeshaspeaks. Well, you to can buy an astrology book and start your own blog.

Microblogging

Microblogging is also popular and most of the blogs follow this pattern for blogging. In microblogging, you don't need to decide a niche. All you have to do is keep posting quality posts about anything that comes in your mind. To give an example, today you posted about blogging, tomorrow you are posting about programming, then you are posting about something else and then on some other topic. This is called microblogging.  In this, you don't have to decide a specific niche and you can just keep on posting anything as long as you keep getting visitors for your content from Google. This is the most followed trick if you don't want to stick to any specific niche. The main disadvantage of this technique is you don't get a royal following as in people won't subscribe to your blog as most of the post on your blog are random and now related to a specific niche.

Copyblogging

Copy blogging is one of the most popular methods of blogging. All you have to do is pick a post related to your niche from any blog, copy it on your blog, modify some lines and add little content from your own side and then give a link to the original post in the footer as a credit for the author. I am strictly against copy blogging as bloggers don't get enough credit for their posts.

I hope you liked the post. If you have any thoughts about the post let us know it in comments and don't forget to share posts with your loved ones because Sharing is Caring.
