Building an Android app is tough, you have to write at least 300-500 lines of code, correct every single error and even then when the code is successfully compiled and executed app crashes and then again you have to go through all the code again so that your app can run smoothly free of errors. It doesn't stop there, you again have to test the app and if the app has integrated Google sign in or login system then it becomes more and more complicated. The most complicated process is while testing in-app purchases in the app. I went through all the posts on the internet for testing in-app purchases and all the post were missing important things so I have made a simple step by step tutorial which will help you to test in-app purchases implemented in your app.
First of all the most important thing in testing in-app purchases is that your app should be published in at least beta track or production track in Google play store before you can test in-app purchases in your app.
If you are have just developed your app and are thinking of releasing the app in alpha stage to test in-app purchases then you will NOT be able to test as your app is not released into play store in production stage or beta stage.
Once your app is released into play store by Google after reviewing you will have to create a new alpha testing track on your app. As alpha testing is a closed testing track first you will need to create testers for your app.
To add a list of testers, Go to Developer Console and select your application. Now click on release management and navigate to App releases. Create a release and open the Dropdown saying Manage testers and add the email of all the testers who will be testing the app and click on Save.
All the testers will receive the app link in their mailbox. You can also copy the app link and send them personally.
Now Click on Create release and add Apk and enable Google Signing for your app. Once your apk is accepted you will have to fill up your app data and then click on Review. Once reviewed click on start roll out and your app will be released as an alpha version on the play store.
Now it is time to add license testers for your app. For adding license testers to your app, Go to the Main page of Google Play dashboard and select settings from the navigation drawer and scroll down to license testing.
Now add the Gmail addresses for all the testers who will be testing the in-app purchases for your blog and separate each email address with a comma. Now when the account with license testing permission will be able to buy anything from the app using the test card.
Thats all. You have successfully started testing your android app for in-app purchases.
