Windows VS Linux? Which is best for programmers?
Windows 10
Windows 10 OS is the most user-friendly OS of all time. Performance mainly depends on PC specs and with an average core i3, the performance level achieved is above satisfactory. Many of the system errors can also be solved in Windows 10 troubleshooting screen itself instead of option for an engineer. Security is also not an issue as long as you have antivirus to protect you. Without antivirus too, Windows defender provides above average level of protection required for a normal programmer. Needless to say, all the application provider companies target Windows as their main source. [You won't find apps such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop or Coral Draw on Linux although alternative have been developed] Yes, you can get open source alternatives in the market but I doubt if they will provide all the functions with this applications provide.Linux
With Linux, Performance and Security come first. An extra level of protection is always there for your system regardless of any antivirus or security apps. Linux does not provide a user with root level access to the system as its counterpart Windows does, So Linux here is more secure than Windows. In terms of performance too, Linux is one step ahead of windows and even if you install Linux on an old generation Pentium processor, it will work as fast as Windows 10 on an i3 processor. So security and performance without a doubt are better on Linux than windows. you should note it that as Company Backed Ubuntu is little user-friendly but in Linux user-friendliness comes last. You will have to do everything with the command-line interface in Linux and that is the worst part of Linux. NO Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop. Although alternatives are available that level of features may not be present. To conclude, Windows 10 and Linux both have its advantages and drawbacks.
