I have myself used Android Studio on Windows 10 and Ubuntu 17.04 LTS. Here are my observations.
As a developer, you know the trouble you have perfectly setting up Android Studio and programming the app. An android studio setup without problems and running the Android emulator without lags is kinda milestone for developers. After all the mess Android studio creates.
There are many reviews around the internet that Android studio works better on Linux than Android studio on Windows. Some of my readers have asked me this question many times. Which OS should I prefer for installing android studio? Is there any difference in speed of Android Studio between Windows and Linux? Does Android Studio work faster on Linux or is it better to use Android Studio on Windows only?
Android Studio |
Let me clear this doubt for once and for all.
I have used Android Studio on Windows 10 as well as on Ubuntu 17.04 LTS. My PC has the lastest 6th Gen i3 processor with DDR4 8 GB RAM. I first tried out Android Studio on Windows 10 which was my default Operating System. Then I dual booted to Ubuntu 17.04 LTS for checking out the speed of Android Studio on Linux. Believe me, I have hardly noticed any difference in Android Studio between both the platforms. Android studio works with same speed, same bugs, same lags even on Linux.Operating system does not affect the working and speed of the android studio.
Yes, even Linux operating system experiences some lags while working on Android Studio. Android emulator takes a minimum of 4 minutes to start on Windows 10. Same time is required for Linux to start Android Emulator. Same time is taken by both the OS for building an app. Windows requires HAXM installer which enables hardware virtualization technology on windows and this helps speed up the Android Studio. Similarly, in Linux, KAXM is required for the android studio to work smoothly.
So Operating System doesn't matter my friends, all that matters is your PC configuration.
